The Carnegie Council for Ethics in International Affairs is proud to partner with the Truman National Security Project to host an evening discussion about the war in Afghanistan as it stands today, and how the United States will eventually be able to exit its now nine-year battle in that country. With President Obama's announcement on December 1st that he has ordered an additional 30,000 U.S. forces into Afghanistan, along with the simultaneous order to begin a draw-down in 18 months, the concept of how the United States will exit Afghanistan is more relevant than ever.

A panel of Truman National Security Project fellows with first-hand military, diplomatic, and NGO experience in Afghanistan will discuss the challenging ethics of how and when we leave Afghanistan. Carnegie Council Senior Security Fellow David Speedie will moderate.

Katherine Brown is a fellow with the Truman National Security Project and is currently completing her Ph.D. in communications at Columbia University, where she is researching the intersections of global and domestic public opinion, media, and U.S. foreign policy.

Robert Diamond is a fellow with the Truman National Security Project and chairs the Truman Project's New York region. He is a senior vice president at Realty Capital International LLC, a global real estate investment banking and advisory firm.

Oren Ipp is a fellow with the Truman National Security Project. He is currently working as a consultant with the United Nations Development Programme, where his assignment focuses on issues of security sector reform and governance.

Christopher McGurk is a fellow with the Truman National Security Project. Chris served as an enlisted Army infantryman with over 10 years of active service.
