Capital Account Regulation in Chile and Colombia

Abstract: During the 1990s, a period of generalized financial liberalization and large foreign capital flows towards Latin America, Chile and Colombia opted for maintaining prudential capital account regulations. This paper presents the rationale behind those regulations, describes their operation and evaluates their effectiveness.
