A Liter of Light
By Evan O'Neil | September 26, 2011
I'm usually not the one to sing the praises of the disposable plastic bottle, but this Filipino innovator has repurposed them in a very useful way: as skylights filled with water. He inserts them in the corrugated rooftops of Manila shanties, bringing natural light to dim interior spaces without using electricity.
Of course, hippies have been doing this sort of thing with their "Earthships" for quite a while, but it's always fun to see a good idea transposed to a new context. For more info, check out the Isang Litrong Liwanag (A Liter of Light) project.
