South-North Network Cultures and Development
The South-North Network includes people from Latin America, Asia, Africa and Europe from both NGO and academic communities. They share a concern about the irrelevance of “development models” as proposed or even imposed on non-Western societies. They believe that it is imperative to set up both theoretical and practical alternatives and to change certain aspects of development cooperation and NGO partnership.
The South-North Network Cultures and Development was set up following an international conference held under the auspices of the Commission of the European Communities in 1985 on the role of culture in the Lome Convention, which associates the twelve countries of the EC with countries in Africa, the Carribean and the Pacific. The South-North Network Cultures and Development is an international non-profit organization under Belgian Law. Its General Assembly is composed according to the general geographic and cultural structure of the network. The South-North Network Cultures and Development is not a funding agency.
