| Description |
The United Nations University's World Institute for Development Economics Research (UNU-WIDER) is an organization whose mission is to undertake multidisciplinary research and policy analysis on structural changes affecting the living conditions of the world's poorest people, to provide a forum for professional interaction and the advocacy of policies leading to robust, equitable and environmentally sustainable growth, and to promote capacity strengthening and training for scholars and government officials in the field of economic and social policy making. WIDER is the first research and training centre established in 1984 in Helsinki by the United Nations University (UNU). UNU is an international academic organization which promotes the UN's aims of peace and progress by providing a framework for bringing together leading scholars from around the world to tackle pressing global problems. Activities are carried out by the UNU Headquarters and its worldwide network of research and training centres and collaborating institutions.
