P. L. Beena is trained as an industrial economist and is currently working as a Lecturer at the Centre for Development Studies, Trivandrum. She earned her Ph.D. from the Centre for Economic Studies and Planning, School of Social Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. She performed short-term post-doctoral research on "Mergers and Acquisitions (M&As) in the Indian Corporate Sector" at the International Development Centre, Queen Elizabeth House, Oxford. Ms. Beena also played a key role in a project on "Entry Strategies of Multinationals in India During the 1990s" while working at NCAER, New Delhi. She also completed substantial research on "Textiles and Clothing Sector in South Asia" while working at RIS, New Delhi, before joining CDS. She is currently engaged in writing a book on M&As in Indian industries with particular references to competition policy. Her major research interest is developmental issues related to industry, trade and investment in India.
