Luiz Niemeyer is currently Associate Professor at the Economics Department of the Catholic University of Sao Paulo (PUC-SP). He has a Master Degree in Economics from PUC-SP and a Ph.D. in Economics from the New School University (2000). In 2005, he was a Visiting Professor at Denver University – Graduate School of International Studies. In 2003, he was Deputy Director of the third Cambridge Advanced Program on Rethinking Development Economics. He also taught at St. John's University, New York, and the State University of New York. Luiz has published several articles in Brazil and a book, Brazil's External Debt in the 1990s in a Historical Perspective: The role of short-term portfolio investment and the shifting character of the Brazilian State during debt crises, which is available in English through University Microfilm, Ann Arbor, MI. His research areas are international finance, economic development, and monetary economics.
