Prior to his recruitment by UNDP Regional Center in Colombo, Mumtaz worked as Policy Advisor for the KTM SURF. Before joining the SURF, Mumtaz was a principle consultant with UNDP’s Global Project on Trade and Sustainable Human Development. He wrote several chapters for the UNDP publication Making Global Trade Work for People. He has also been involved in several UNDP projects on macroeconomic policies, poverty eradication, and gender inequality, among others over the first five years of his career in UNDP. In the last two years, Mumtaz has been giving policy and programming advice to UNDP Country Offices in the sub-region on international trade and development.

He holds a Ph.D. in Economics, specializing in political economy, international trade, and development economics.
