Sergio Arzeni is the Director of the OECD Centre for Entrepreneurship, SMEs and Local Development since July 2004. He is also the head of the Local Economic and Employment Development (LEED) Programme of the OECD. His work has focused primarily on entrepreneurship and innovation, on job creation and social cohesion, on the internationalisation of SMEs and area-based approaches to economic development.
Before joining the OECD some 23 years ago, Arzeni served as an economist for the Italian Parliament, the Italian Trade Unions and the European Commission. He is a visiting professor in International Economics, Entrepreneurship and Innovation at various universities in Italy, GB or the USA. He is the author of several reports, essays, articles and editor of collective books on economics, for the OECD and other publishers.
He holds a First Class Honours Degree in Political Science from the University of Rome and specialised in Industrial Economics at the University of Luxembourg and on International Economic Relations at the Brookings Institution in Washington D.C., USA.
