Sony Kapoor works on issues relating to international finance, development and governance both with nongovernmental organizations and various governments. He is the Senior Policy and Advocacy Advisor to Christian Aid UK. He is also affiliated with the International Tax Justice Network, the Tobin Tax Network and Jubilee USA. Sony is a member of the New Rules for Global Finance Coalition.
For the past two years, Sony has played a leading role in the international policy and advocacy effort around multilateral debt cancellation and currency transaction taxation. He is currently spearheading international advocacy on tax justice issues such as tackling the pernicious role of tax havens, transfer pricing and capital flight. He is also playing a prominent role in the dicussion on innovative sources of financing.
Sony has written extensively on debt, financial stability, taxation, development financing and the environment. Sony has a background in the financial services industry having worked both as an investment banker and a derivatives trader in India, UK and the USA. He has a Master's degree in international finance from the London School of Economics and an MBA in Finance and Economics. Sony also holds an engineering degree from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology.
