Alex Cobham manages the policy team at Christian Aid, a leading international grant-making development NGO in the United Kingdom. He was previously Supernumerary Fellow in Economics at St. Anne's, Oxford, and Director of the Economy Section at the Oxford Council on Good Governance. He worked and studied in Oxford from 1999 to 2007, and in Edinburgh and Cardiff before that. He has carried out research and consultancy work for the European Commission, the U.K. Department for International Development, Oxfam and the Bretton Woods Project, and Oxford Analytica. He was coordinator of the Task Force on Capital Market Liberalization at the Initiative for Policy Dialogue led by Joseph Stiglitz.

His research focuses on the role of taxation in development, and has also covered the growth and employment effects of different patterns of financing of firms' investment in three main settings: European economic and monetary union, the processes of economic and financial market development in poorer countries, and the optimal regulation of international financial flows.
