Andrew Kuper is the President of LeapFrog Investments, a pioneer emerging markets firm. LeapFrog invests in financial services businesses that serve low income people, profitably, with quality products and services. Previously, Kuper held the positions of Managing Director at Ashoka, the organization that has financed and supported 2000 social entrepreneurs in 70 countries. Prior to that, he was Co-Director of Kuper Research, a media and socio-political consultancy based in Johannesburg, which has been behind the design and launch of several successful new media titles.
Andy is a global thought-leader on democracy, human rights, and innovations in poverty relief. His two recent books are Democracy Beyond Borders (Oxford) and Global Responsibilities: Who Must Deliver on Human Rights? (Routledge).
Andy advises and lectures citizen organizations, academia, government bodies, and multinational companies. He has co-authored articles and reports with leaders including Nobel Laureates Amartya Sen and Joseph Stiglitz.
Born and raised in South Africa, Andy started his first venture at age ten. He wrote his Ph.D. (at Cambridge and Harvard Universities) on globalization and democracy. He served on the Faculty of Trinity College, Cambridge, and co-founded the Cambridge Gender Center. He later founded the Empire and Democracy Project at the Carnegie Council, which he ran during the build-up to the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Andy now lives in New York City.
