Andrew Kuper is president and founder of LeapFrog Investments, the world's first microinsurance fund, hailed by former U.S. president Bill Clinton as the "insurer to the poor." The fund targets strong returns for its investors while reaching 25 million vulnerable people in Africa and Asia with life-changing financial services. Backed by leading banks, funds, reinsurers, and microfinance investors, LeapFrog's $135 million fund is the largest dedicated investor in microinsurance worldwide. The team's investment strategy has been hailed by the Financial Times, Bloomberg, Fast Company, and many global leaders as opening up a new frontier for microfinance and impact investment.
Andy is a serial entrepreneur and investor in emerging markets. He is a former managing director of Ashoka, which has financed and connected more than 2,500 social entrepreneurs in 70 countries. He was a program director at the Carnegie Council in 2003–2004. Andy is the editor of Global Responsibilities (Routledge, 2005), and author of Democracy Beyond Borders (Oxford, 2004) along with a host of other publications. Born and raised in South Africa, Andy was educated at Harvard University and the University of the Witwatersrand, and holds a Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge, where he was supervised by Nobel laureate Amartya Sen.
