Márcia da Mota Darós is carrying out her Ph.D. studies at the UNU-MERIT (United Nations University – Maastricht Economic and Social Research and Training Centre on Innovation and Technology), in Maastricht, The Netherlands. The aim of her thesis is to analyse the dynamics of innovation in the service sector, by focusing the research on the role of the ICTs and other organizational innovations within the travel and tourism industry, with special emphasis on the case of developing countries. Her main research interests cover: patterns of innovation in services, national and local systems of innovation, regional development, industrial, scientific and technological policies, capacity building and management of technology. She holds a M.Sc. in Scientific and Technological Policy from the UNICAMP (Universidade Estadual de Campinas), São Paulo – Brazil. From 1998 to 2001, she worked at the National Confederation of Industry (CNI), in Brasília, where she was the National Executive Coordinator of training for CEOs all over the country (in partnership with universities) and abroad at INSEAD (France) and IMD (Switzerland).
