Sawkut Rojid is a freelance consultant in economics and business. He also teaches international trade and international business at the University of Mauritius. He is the in-country researcher for the yearly Southern African Development Community (SADC) Trade Review project funded by the Australian government and managed by TIPS South Africa. He is also a trainer at the Institute of Development Studies (University of Sussex) for the course on Economic Partnership Agreements.

As a consultant Sawkut has been involved in a number of national and regional projects. The projects that he is currently involved in are: Surveying regional commodities associations in SADC and Eastern and Southern Africa, commissioned by the Southern African Confederation of Agricultural Unions; women entrepreneurship skills in Mauritius, funded by the Organisation of Social Science Research in Eastern Africa (Ethiopia); and Knowledge and Innovation in Africa and Asia, funded by the United Nations University.

Sawkut has published several academic papers in international journals. Some examples are: "Trade performance and predictions of the COMESA region" in Applied Economic Letters; "The duty free island of Mauritius: A general equilibrium approach" in Empirical Economic Letters; and "The impact of MFA phase out on Mauritius" in the University of Mauritius Journal.
