Andrea Hart

GPI Global Internship
Andrea Hart is a senior journalism and Latin American studies major at Northwestern University who recently covered immigration issues in South Africa for five months. She reported on legislative issues concerning refugee rights and wrote analytical pieces on the underlying societal tensions surrounding xenophobia. Her work on immigration issues culminated in a two-week trip to the South Africa–Zimbabwe border to investigate issues concerning migrant abuse, healthcare, and the lives of unaccompanied migrant children. Her work was recently nominated for a Hearst Journalism Award.

Andrea's previous experience includes cultural reporting for Chicago magazines and co-founding Northwestern's only alt-weekly magazine, The Weekly. She plans to pursue a career as a regional correspondent in Latin America after graduation. Andrea joined the GPI Global Internship for summer 2009.
