Cynthia Scharf
Cynthia Scharf serves as the speechwriter and strategic communications manager for the UN Secretary-General's Climate Change Support Team. She previously served for four years as the chief speech and op-ed writer for the Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs.

Prior to her work with the UN, she served for several years with international humanitarian organizations in the United States, United Kingdom, Balkans, former Soviet Union, and Africa. Ms. Scharf has also worked in the private sector for the largest socially responsible investment company in the United States.

She began her career as a journalist, reporting from Moscow (1990–1993) on the collapse of the U.S.S.R. Her articles have been published in the International Herald Tribune, Wall Street Journal Europe, Los Angeles Times, Globe and Mail, Moscow Times, and elsewhere. Ms. Scharf has a Master's degree in Russian and East European history from Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service. She speaks Russian and French.
