Gerhard Pohl
Director of Operations, Development Gateway Foundation
For the past 25 years, Dr. Pohl has held a variety of staff, and managerial advisory positions at the World Bank, including country economist for Korea and China, advisor to the Senior Vice President, Operations, and manager for finance and private sector development for Europe, Central Asia, the Middle East and North Africa. Dr. Pohl was also a member of the Bank’s Private Sector Board.
Dr. Pohl is the author numerous studies, books and journal articles, including the 1989 World Development Report. Dr. Pohl has taught at Johns Hopkins University and New York University and has a Ph.D. in international economics and finance, and degrees in management and engineering from New York University and the University of Stuttgart.
Prior to joining the World Bank, Mr. Pohl worked for architectural and engineering consulting firms in Germany and Switzerland and UNDP.
