Joseph S. Nye, Jr., served as assistant secretary of defense under President Clinton. Currently, he is the Sultan of Oman Professor of International Relations and dean at the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University. His books include Bound to Lead (1990), The Paradox of American Power (2001), and Soft Power (2004).
