Kevin Bales

President, Free the Slaves


Dr. Kevin Bales is president of Free the Slaves. He also teaches at Roehampton University in London and the University of Hull's Wilberforce Institute for the Study of Slavery and Emancipation. He serves on the Board of Directors of the International Cocoa Initiative and is a trustee of Anti-Slavery International.

Previously, Bales served as a consultant to the United Nations Global Program on Trafficking of Human Beings. He has been invited to advise the United States, United Kingdom, Ireland, Norway, Nepal, and West African governments on the formulation of policy on slavery and human trafficking.

His books include Disposable People: New Slavery in the Global Economy, and The Slave Next Door: Human Trafficking in America (co-authored with Ron Soodalter).
