Malavika undertakes research in two areas: energy security and energy poverty. She is a former consultant with McKinsey & Company, where she managed assignments in the area of climate change. These included helping a European government to develop carbon budgets going up to the next few decades, developing perhaps the first global cross-sectoral abatement cost curve for greenhouse gases, working with NGOs to devise prototype carbon abatement agreements, analysing the newly developing carbon markets to help clients make strategic investments, and advising power companies on the impact of environmental issues.
