Martin Jaenicke

Martin Jaenicke has more than 35 years of experience as a professor of comparative politics, scientific author, and senior policy adviser. He was member of the Berlin state parliament in the early 1980s as well as project director of the UN University, member of the National Research Committee for Global Change and of the German UNESCO Commission. He was also a member of the Energy Council of the Berlin state government from 1989 to 1997.

For more than twenty years, Jaenicke has been director of the Environmental Policy Research Centre at the Free University of Berlin. He has also been a member of the German National Committee on Global Change Research and of the government Advisory Council on the Environment.

Since 2003, he has been a board member of the Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt and member of the International Advisory Board of the Wuppertal Institut (since 2002). His books on state failure, ecological modernization, and innovation in environmental policy have been translated into several languages. In 1998, he received the prize of the Nature Protection Foundation in Berlin.
