Maureen Were

Policy Analyst, Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis


Dr. Maureen Were holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Dar es salaam, Tanzania. Currently she works as a Policy Analyst in the Macroeconomics division of the Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis (KIPPRA). Dr. Were has wide experience in research, and has written a number of papers on the Kenyan economy, labour market, gender, trade and health issues. Her work at KIPPRA also includes economic modeling, mainly with the aim of providing comprehensive understanding of the Kenyan economy and enhancing economic management by way of policy simulation analysis and forecasting. Prior to joining KIPPRA, Dr. Were taught at the Department of Economics, Egerton University and worked as a Junior Research Fellow at the Institute for Policy Analysis and Research (IPAR). Areas of research interests include macroeconomics, labor market, economic modeling, poverty, health, trade, globalization and socio-economic development
