Midori Okabe is currently an Associate Professor with the Faculty of Law, Sophia University, Tokyo. She received her B.A. in Sociology (1994), M.A. in Area Studies (1996), and M.A. in International Relations (2000) from the University of Tokyo.

Prof. Okabe has also been a Visiting Scholar (Ushiba fellow) at the Centre of International Studies, University of Cambridge, UK; an Academic Programme Associate in the Division of Peace and Governance Programme at the United Nations University headquarters in Tokyo; a Centre of Excellence Research Fellow at the International Christian University in Tokyo; a Special Advisor to the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the embassy in Luxembourg; and a research fellow for Nomura Research Institute Ltd.

Her research interests include international and global migration studies and international relations, including European Union studies.
